La Liga giants FC Barcelona have announced the signing of promising American right-back Sergino Dest from Eredivisie side Ajax Amsterdam on a deal worth €21m.
Ronald Koeman registers his first signing since his arrival on Barca bench. Following Nelson Semedo’s move to Premier League side Wolverhampton Wanderers, the Nou Camp outfit were looking for a true right-back in order to solve the club’s defensive miseries. And Sergino Dest has been chosen by the Dutch tactician.
Dest joined Ajax Amsterdam in 2019 and was tipped to a long stay with the club. But Barca officials’ offer make things quicker than expected.
The 19-year-old completed his medical at the club earlier on Thursday and is yet to put pen on paper for a five-year deal.
Dest who joined Ajax’s first team in summer 2019 capitulated 35 appearances under Erik Ten Hag orders, scored 2 goals and provided 6 assists.
“FC Barcelona and Ajax have reached an agreement for the transfer of Sergiño Dest. The cost of the operation is 21 million euros plus a further 5 million in variables.” it reeds in Barca official website.
The player will sign a contract for the next five seasons, through to the end of the 2024/25 season, with a buyout clause set at 400 million euros.”

Left by legendary Brazilian right-back Dani Alves who moved to Juventus in 2015 and recently wore by Nelson Semedo, Barca’s shirt number 2 becomes Dest’s property. The club places a huge hope on him and expectations are great for the new season.
As a reminder, FC Barcelona will play their second league game of the season tonight (7:30PM) after their convincing win against Villareal in opener with a brace of Ansu Fati and a penalty of Lionel Messi.
