Ivan Rakitic has returned back to Sevilla after six consecutive seasons with La Liga giants FC Barcelona. The Croatian midfielder then pays a touching tribute to Blaugrana and opens up on his back to Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan.
Ivan Rakitic joined Barca back to 2014 season as he left Sevilla FC. A year after his arrival at the Nou Camp, the 32-year-old won the UEFA Champions league with a goal scored against Gianluigi Buffon‘s Juventus.
It was just the beginning of so many trophies with Barca as he registered an avalanche of 13 titles. Including four La Liga, one champions league, four Copa Del Rey, one FIFA Club World Cup, one UEFA Super Cup and two Spanish Super Cup.
Moreover, Rakitic made 310 appearances with Barca and found the net 36 times and provided 40 assists (find out all his stats here). He has been massive for the club all along his time at Catalonia. However, he failed to extend his contract and his former club welcome him back.
“I arrived at FC Barcelona 6 years ago. Today, I am turning a wonderful page in my career. It has been an honor to wear this jersey.” Rakitic wrote on Twitter.
“I would like to thank everyone without exception. My family, my teammates, the coaches, the staff, the club employees and the fans. See you soon.” he added.
On the other hand, Barca’s president Josep Maria Bartomeu has hailed the commitment of the central midfielder and his professionalism.
“Thank you Ivan Rakitic, for your commitment and dedication. You’ve been a fundamental part of the successes of the last several years, and a example of professionalism. You will always have a home in Barcelona and at Barça.” Barca chairman wrote on social media.
Meantime, Ivan Rakitic also talks about what motivates him to sign back a four-year deal with the Andalusians as he he is happy to return home.
“I’m very happy and excited to return home. I’m also very grateful for how everything turned out, it was how we wanted it” Rakitic told Sevillafc.es
“Football evolves quickly and sometimes my return seemed closer, but it was always my top priority. With the relationship I have with Monchi I have always been aware of everything, aware of everything that happens and I have always had all the information, apart from the fact that I like it.” he continued.
“I am very excited, I can’t know how many times we’ve played the anthem at home since it became official. The neighbours have to sing it too. Finally the day has arrived” he added.
“With all due respect, the sixth is already ours and we love it like no one else, but we want to take the next step both in LaLiga and the Champions League. We know what all this means, but we don’t want to put more pressure on ourselves than necessary, but we do know in which direction we want to go. I’m very keen to start”. he said.
