Chris Smalling has written an emotional farewell message to Manchester United after completing his permanent move to Italian top-flight side AS Roma on a three-year deal.
AS Roma reached an agreement with Manchester United over a £18m deal to sign Chris Smalling on a permanent deal after the centre-back spent last season on loan in Serie A.
The 30-year-old who arrived at Old Trafford in 2010, bids a touching farewell to the Red Devils where he made 323 appearances.
“It all began in July 2010, and now 10 years, 323 appearances, 2 titles, and 6 cups later it has come to an end. Utd is a special place, and we achieved special things together, something I am beyond proud about. An unrivalled culture, where winning is not a want it is a need.” Smalling wrote on his Twitter account.
“I leave not only a better player, but a better person, with Utd forever in my DNA. For that I have to thank all the staff, everyone connected to the club, and you the fans. Nothing surer you will continue to greatness. CS” he added.
Furthermore, he did not missed out the occasion to say thank to AS Roma for the confidence they placed on him.
“I arrived last summer, and although temporary at the time, I knew instantly it would be my permanent home. Cannot wait to get started again, the journey continues, enjoy the ride!” he wrote.
